UNDERSTANDING CRISIS
Crisis is defined in Thesaurus dictionary as disaster, catastrophe, emergency, calamity, and predicament. I like the Chinese definition of the word crisis, which is danger yet opportunity. It is actually a double-syllable word because every crisis is also an opportunity.
Are you dealing with a major crisis? There is hope for you! Crisis is a part of life. You are not weird or evil just because you are going through a crisis. The Bible says it rains on the just (righteous) and the unjust (wicked). No matter how good you are you are not exempt to crisis.
Many Christians have the false belief that if they are good enough or have enough faith, they will never have any crisis in life. “They use clichés like; I am blessed and highly favored…” thinking that because they walk in favor nothing will ever go wrong. That is just not true. Just because you are going through a crisis does not mean you are lacking in God’s favor. Wake up! This planet is still dealing with the effects of Spiritual Death and will be until Adam’s lease is up. Spiritual death is the nature of Satan which is still in the planet due to Adam’s sin.

CYCLES OF LIFE
Another reason why we all deal with crisis is the cyclic nature of life. Meaning, everything happens in seasons. Every dog has his day as we say. This is why you should not envy those that are doing well when you are going through it. Their day will come! There is a time and a season to laugh and a time or season to cry. Hey! You can’t stop the seasons, but you can endure them. That is why I like the saying; THIS TOO SHALL PASS! It implies that we must simply be patient because everything must and will change.
Today I want to give you some understanding from actual experience on what happens during a major crisis and how to deal with the crisis. No matter what your crisis, be it financial, relational, personal, marital or spiritual, certain things tend to happen during every crisis.

3 THINGS THAT HAPPENS DURING A CRISIS
Now I want to give you three things that seems to always happen during a major crisis.

1. False friends flee from you.
Crisis like nothing else reveals who your false friends are. Let’s face it; folks are generally selfish and when you are no longer in a position to benefit them many will flee from you like you have the plague. The tough thing is that they often leave when you need them most. Just as false friends desert you, your true friends will rise to the occasion with encouragement and support. Everybody loves a winner, but when you lose you lose alone!

2. Loneliness sets in.
Naturally as false friends leave, you will sense a vacuum because even false friends bring some company. They can even be the life of the party. So, when they leave or stop communicating with you there is a gaping hole or vacuum. Some leave because they can no longer benefit from your success and others leave because they don’t know what to do or say in that they have never seen you down or struggling. It is like seeing someone with cancer for the first time that you are used to seeing healthy. Some people just can’t handle seeing you going through a crisis and they don’t care enough to hang around. Jesus is the Friend that sticks closer than a brother.


3. Clichés go…
Clichés are sayings with no real depth. They tend to be shallow. Many clichés are pseudo spiritual or religious. You say them just to have something to say. During a major crisis you may find yourself saying things that you thought you would never say. Instead of Praise the Lord you may catch yourself saying; “oh shoot” (or a stronger word). Some even resort to angry cursing which they thought they had outgrown. Even the Apostle Peter started cursing when he was continually told that he was a disciple of Jesus at the time of Jesus’ trial. The crisis brought out a side of Peter that he did not think existed anymore. He cursed and denied that he knew Jesus during the crisis.

Today I want you to stop thinking some strange thing has happened to you and endure the cycles remembering that “THIS TOO MUST PASS!!! Glory is right around the corner.
